From the Chairman
Another Parish Council year began in May and several changes of personnel have taken place. We lost one Councillor some while ago and another has recently retired. The retiring Councillor, Peter Ford, has been associated with the Parish Council for many years. The members of the Council thank him for his unstinting service and wish him the very best for the future. Peter has in fact volunteered to offer any help he can if ever he is needed.
I am pleased, on behalf of my fellow Councillors to welcome two new faces at our monthly meetings, namely Mrs. Annette Booth and Mr. Geoff Corbett, I'm sure they'll have an interesting time.
I would also like to put into words our appreciation of the work our outgoing Chairman has given to our district and personally am delighted that he is remaining on the Council for the foreseeable future. His experience and knowledge of Parish affairs will be greatly appreciated and fully utilized.
Unfortunately we lost two former Council stalwarts when past chairman Dennis Goode and past councillor Bert Butters passed away, our thoughts are with their respective families.
As a Parish Council we are always looking at ways to enhance our village and protect our environment and have several projects in the pipeline, starting in September with our village festival, a repeat of our first attempt of two years ago in which we hope to bring the village and it's residents together to enjoy a week of interest, fun and enjoyment. More on this is elsewhere in this Newsletter.
Another project we intend to pursue is the update of the local walks around our village and to this extent we are being helped by local walker Chris Peel, and more will appear later.
In the meantime, if we can help anyone locally with any parish matters please contact any one of the present Committee.

WHITMORE VILLAGE HALL DEVELOPMENT UPDATE
Since the last newsletter, the Village Hall Committee has been continuing the search for funding for the development of the new entrance and the additional meeting rooms.
The cost of the development will be around £120,000 and we have funds of £25,000 towards this, including over £2,500 from the Sponsor a Brick scheme. We were successful in our application to Staffordshire County Council, securing a grant of 13% of the cost of the development or £15,000, whichever was the lower. This was subject to our being able to demonstrate that the total funds were in place by the end of August.
Unfortunately, our application to the Lottery for £50,000 has been rejected. We shall be resubmitting this, but any response to a second application will be received too late for us to meet the County Council deadline. Regrettably, this means that our planned start date of October will not be met.
We are actively pursuing other funding sources and hope to commence building in summer 2011.
The local support through the Brick Sponsorship has been very much appreciated and further contributions will be very welcome as they do demonstrate to potential funders the extent of the involvement of our community. Also any suggestions for future fund raising or potential sources for Grants will be most welcome.
Please contact Keith Willingham (680944), John Inchley (680315) or Don Lawton (680371) with your suggestions and any queries you may have on the development.

Through consultation with our local residents our current Policing Priority remains speeding with additional attention being paid to off road motor cycles causing Anti Social behaviour in the rural localities.
The summer months see a substantial increase in motorbikes using our roads particularly throughout Sundays and on Thursday evenings. Multi Agency Operations operate periodically in partnership with West Mercia Police on Thursday evenings with varying emphasis between education and enforcement. Staffordshire Safer Roads Camera Van will continue to visit our locality with a view to encourage all motorists to drive with due care.
Thanks to our residents two riders have been apprehended and spoken to re using off road motorbikes in an anti social manner. Official warnings have been administered giving police a power to seize and ultimately destroy any motorbike the offenders are founds upon if they persist in behaving in such a manner.
Neighbourhood Watch is now online. Please log on to www.owl.co.uk and register – it benefits us all with very little effort.
Police Surgeries continue to operate in partnership with the Mobile Library Service. Positive response has been received from the Butterton and Acton locations but the Baldwins Gate Surgeries have not been supported. We urge residents to make full use of this very valuable service. Please see your Parish Council notice boards for details.
The Mobile Police Station visited on 12th June 2010 and the next visit is due 25th September 2010:-
- Sheet Anchor Car Park; 0900hrs – 0930hrs
- Mainwaring Arms; 0945hrs – 1015hrs
